A STOL is an aircraft able to make Short Take Off and Landing.
Habitually, these devices are capable as VTOL take off and land on summary runways and are very adapted for mountain flight.

To subject see: Principles Mountain Flight

MAIN   STOL  with  FSX  and  FS2004

They are frequently characterized by fixed landing gear ( weight ) and tail with fins in the upper position ( sometimes like T ) to facilitate the lifting and short takeoffs.
All devices below exist as free addon version that you will find addresses with direct links in the Club-FS addon :

                    " Oldies "

                    - Antonov 14 :
A small russian twin-engine a little bit " archaic " but terribly effective for take off less than 50 Mn. Ceiling 18 000 feet

Antonov 14

                - Short : Early versions in years 40 of this twin engines STOL with nose up and  tailwheel.

                Mono turbo  :

                    - Pilatus PC 6 : This device has a super power with 6 / 7 places. It's rustic but very effective. Speed climb exceptional. Ceiling: 28 000.

Pilatus PC6

                    - Pilatus PC 12 : The modern version and "comfortable" in 6 / 7 places for short-haul routes in the mountains. Track least 300 meters = 1 000 feet

Pilatus PC12

                        - Cessna 208B Caravan in its Carrier version : With flaps extended allowing landings without tail hook .....
To increase flaps and their inclination, see : Improve aircrafts

Caravan Carrier

                    - CAP 750 XL: The "Pacific Aero" is a small lightweight STOL capacity very efficient.

                         Bi-turbo engines :

                  - Twin Otter :
This device is found in all the right moves ..... This is the version 400 with a file dhc69.air

Twin Ott Skybus

                 - Britten Norman Islander : STOL One of the most powerful but very rudimentary

Britten Norman

               - Dornier 228 :

Dornier 228

               - Dornier  328
  : A STOL medium capacity

Dornier 228

                - Short 360 : A larger STOL ability, pleasant ( "Panel" to improve ) Other versions : Short 330 and Short Sherpa
To increase panels, see : Improve panels

Short 360

                    Bi-reactors :

The powered by jet engines, because high speed evolution, is not particularly suitable for STOL performance, but may be noted :

                         - Antonov 72 : It is a case with the engines on the wings ( As  Lockheed Martin Seamaster ). Track mini 1 200 feet = 400 m

Antonov 72

                        - Antonov 148 : It is the successor of the Antonov 72 with greater capacity. Runway minimum 1 500 feet = 500 m.

Antonov 148

                        - Dornier 328 Jet: A jet almost STOL medium capacity.

  TAKE-OFF

With the flaps to the max and many trim positive STOL distances for takeoff  are similar to those of a  football field .......
Climbing angles, tight capacity and speed climb due to high lift coefficient rates are surprising
                    See :  Aérodynamics

  LANDING

The STOL can make " droped " landings "  with incidence angles in the final relatively high ( 5 to 15 ° )
                    See :  Navigation and localization
